Cooling down the overheated Anthropocene

Cooling down the overheated Anthropocene

This is a recording of the 2018 Gjessing lecture, given at Oslo’s Museum of Cultural History. Trying to connect my own concern with global crises to Gutorm Gjessing’s wide-ranging engagement as a scholar and an activist, I spoke about the collapse of complex civilizations, the way in which the planet is affected by a high fever, and the relationship of research to activism. I hope Gjessing, whom I never met, would have appreciated this take on our shared concerns.
